Symbolism in the Medal
The central portrait is of Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard in his federal officer’s uniform of 1861. In the distance is a view of Charleston Harbor with Ft. Sumter in the center while 2 cannoneers keep watchful eye on the fort from a shore battery. Behind the General hangs the First National Flag. The portrait is surrounded by 13 stars representing the States of the Confederacy on a red border symbolizing Beauregard’s skill as an artillerist. The banner below the portrait displays the General’s namesake Host Camp of the 2021 Reunion.
An engineer by his West Point education and military profession, the Engineer’s Castle hangs from the plaque announcing the reunion, its date, and location.
Hanging from the Engineer’s Castle is the Southern Cross of Honor reminding us of our precious heritage which calls us to always remember and treasure it.
As Gen. Beauregard is the acknowledged father of the Confederate Battle Flag, a battle flag ribbon hangs behind the medal.
